An Advanced Scheduler is a software application which sits on top of a resource manager, integrating advanced reservations, resource scheduling, policy and event engines to help process workloads faster, in line with set priorities and organizational objectives. Uses Advanced schedulers allow users to get more out of their cluster environments by providing management and scheduling tools above what a resource manager is able to do. A resource manager, such as TORQUE *, PBS Pro, Loadleveler, or LSF, manages the job queue and monitors the compute nodes. An Advanced scheduler, such as Moab Workload Manager or Maui Cluster Scheduler, tells the resource manager what to do, when to run jobs, and where.
