Advanced Scheduler

An advanced scheduler sits on top of a resource manager and adds valuable efficiency improvements often increasing system utilization by an additional 10 to 35% above that which can be achieved by a resource manager under any real level of complexity.

Moab (which provides workload management along with advanced scheduling) and Maui are the most widely used advanced schedulers. Maui is able to provide scheduling to a single cluster, has a fair level of capabilities but can be challenging to learn and deploy properly. Moab is able to provide scheduling and workload management to one or more clusters, has the most advanced level of capabilities, is easier to use and deploy and comes with a Web-based job submission and management portal tool, advanced graphical administration and reporting tool. Moab has commercial support available and has been known to be very affordable especially considering its improvements to utilization and management control over HPC systems.
