Resource Managers
Resource Managers do basic node state monitoring, receive job submission requests and execute the requests on the compute node. Some resource managers have basic scheduling or policy controls. On complex cluster environments, a resource manager can increase the utilization of a system from 20% to 70%. In the most simplistic environments utilization with a resource manager alone can exceed 80% or more.
Some of the more popular resource managers include LSF, TORQUE, LoadLeveler, PBS Pro and SGE.
